Having been likened to Spanish legend Andres Iniesta by his former England under-18 teammates, Leicester City academy graduate Sammy Braybrooke is regarded as one of the top prospects at the club.
Braybrooke has been at Leicester since age six and signed his first professional contract in February 2022. The 20-year-old was a regular member of the Leicester under-23 squad at that time and was training with the first team. Brendan Rodgers, the Foxes manager at that time, rated him highly and regularly included him in the match-day squad. “He’s continued his development. He’s going to be an outstanding player, there’s absolutely no doubt.” Rodgers said.
A deep-lying midfielder, Braybrooke is a composed and intelligent player who reads the game well. The youngster excels in tight situations, capable of manoeuvring out of danger or passing through the line. This makes him a press-resistant player, a valuable trait in the Premier League. Braybrooke has been at the fringes of the squad for the past few seasons and was sent out on a season-long loan with Scottish Premiership club Dundee to get some valuable game time.
Sammy Braybrooke has adapted well to senior football
He made his senior debut in a 2-2 home draw against St. Mirren, with BBC Sport reporting that the youngster had a good game, making 15 final third passes and “looking composed” in possession. The midfielder has been a regular starter under Tony Docherty, having made four appearances for Dundee (including three starts)
The England youth international has adapted well to senior football and hasn’t looked out of place in the Scottish Premiership. Braybrooke has been deployed as a box-to-box midfielder and has done well. The youngster averages 3.3 tackles and interceptions per game and has a pass accuracy of over 80% in the league. Braybrooke is becoming a well-rounded midfielder and has a bright future for the Foxes if he continues to develop at this rate.
