Odsonne Edouard, on loan at Leicester City from Crystal Palace, is set to be available against Everton.
The French forward was ineligible to take part in Saturday’s clash against his parent club at Selhurst Park but is now in contention to make his debut in the Foxes’ next Premier League fixture. Leicester will take on Everton at the King Power Stadium on August 21 in what will be a vital match for both teams.
Leicester are currently just above the drop zone, while the Toffees sit dead last without a single point from the opening four games of the season. Facing the bottom-placed team at home provides the Foxes the perfect opportunity to register their first league victory of the season.
Odsonne Edouard ‘frustrated’ at being unable to play
Steve Cooper admitted that Edouard has been frustrated at being unable to play so far. With Leicester playing Palace right after the international break, the striker is yet to play a minute for the Foxes, despite joining the club almost three weeks ago.
“Odsonne, we’re delighted he’s here. He’s a bit frustrated he can’t play because of the loan agreement. We’re looking forward to introducing him when we can. We’ve got really good competition now and we want the guys to be pushing each other so we can get to a place we really want to be in games.” Cooper said.
Jamie Vardy likely to start against Everton
Jamie Vardy is likely to start against Everton given his form and fitness. However, against Palace, it was evident that the Leicester legend was tiring towards the end of the match. Despite his fatigue, Cooper could not take Vardy off. Patson Daka’s long-term injury and Edouard’s ineligibility meant the Foxes number nine was the only striker in the squad.
With Edouard in the squad, the striker can be used as a substitute in the next few games. Having the Frenchman come on as a substitute ensures that he is not rushed into first-team action while also injecting much-needed energy up the pitch in the closing stages of the game.
