Chelsea have completed the signing of Portuguese striker Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid for a price of £46.3m. The 24-year-old has officially penned a 6-year contract at Stamford Bridge, with the possibility to extend for an additional year.

Felix, who joined the Spanish club Atletico Madrid from Benfica back in 2019, has now returned to Chelsea on a permanent contract after spending half a year with them during the 2022-23 season. His earlier stint saw him netting only four goals in 16 appearances, falling short of fans’ expectations. Last season, he also had a spell at Barcelona where he found the back of the net ten times in 44 outings.

Joao Felix expresses excitement about Chelsea return

Expressing his joy on rejoining Chelsea, Felix remarked, “I’m really happy to be back at Chelsea and I can’t wait to get started. I can see some familiar faces from the last time I was here, which is always nice.

“I loved my time here before and I told my friends and family that I’d love to return to the Premier League one day. To do that with Chelsea is a great feeling and I’m excited to be back.”

Felix’s move paved the way for Conor Gallagher’s switch to Atletico Madrid for a substantial fee of £36 million. The young talent penned a five-year deal with the Spanish side as their latest acquisition.

Joao Felix marks Chelsea’s tenth summer signing alongside Tosin Adarabioya, Omari Kellyman, Marco Guia, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Renato Veiga, Caleb Wiley, Aaron Anselmino, Filip Jorgensen and Pedro Neto.

With the arrival of Felix bolstering their squad for the upcoming season, Chelsea are optimistic that the talented Portuguese player will finally fulfill his potential and have a significant impact at Stamford Bridge.
