Since signing an 18-month contract with Chelsea for an undisclosed fee on 31st January 2018, Olivier Giroud has been a bit-part player in the team, though still making vital contributions either from starting a match or coming off from the bench.

Giroud is capable of playing in several offensive positions, but usually plays as a striker or as a centre-forward; he has also occasionally been used as a second striker, or even as a false 9. A hard-working striker, he is known in particular for his reliable goal scoring rate, size, physical strength, heading accuracy, powerful shot, ability to hold up the ball with his back to goal and link-up play, or create space for his teammates with his movement off the ball.

Due to his playing style and penchant for scoring goals after coming off the bench, he has been described as a “target man“, and as a “super sub” in the media.

Coming from Arsenal with an impressive amount of 105 goals in 253 total appearances, Giroud’s competence and input has never been in doubt.

Since making his Chelsea debut in a Premier League away game at Watford, where he came on in the 64th minute replacing Pedro, he has impactfully scored 21 goals in 76 appearances in his three years spell at the Stamford bridge.

At 33-yrs-old, the France International forward has seen his game time very limited; been used sparingly by Chelsea this season, scoring three goals in 13 appearances across all competitions.

Former Chelsea’s coach Antonio Conte, who is now coaching Inter Milan has been hunting the Premier league for quality players since he took over at the San Siro. He has successfully convinced top quality players like Christian Eriksen, Romelu Lukaku, Ashley Young and recently signing Alexis Sanchez on a season-long loan deal.
