The news has made Chelsea fans take over Twitter, believing that the club is ready to sign the next Didier Drogba. At the same time, half of the fans are terming him to be the next Drogba due to his Ivorian origin, while others hope for him to succeed, as did the previous big striker at Molde, Erling Haaland. Graham Potter is a long-term admirer of the striker, and Brighton thus monitored the player for a long time. Although as reports confirm, Chelsea has beaten Brighton and also have got the better of Liverpool, who too were interested in the young sensation.
Who is David Datro Fofana?
The Ivorian striker, born in 2002, plays for the Norwegian side Molde. The striker standing 5’11 tall is the next emerging talent in the league who already has bagged 15 goals and assisted another 5 in 24 games this season.
Datro Fofana started his career at AFAD Djekanou and only in 2021 made his move to Molde. The start of this season has been exceptional for the teenager, as justified by his goal-tally. The striker is a strong man with the ball and also is quick with the ball under his feet.
He is well known for 1v1s as the striker can dribble past well against the defenders and is equally good defensively, making some strong tackles. Although his finishing and final 3rd decision-making is often questioned, the striker can improve under the supervision of coaches at Stamford Bridge. The youngster idolizes the Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba and has expressed his desire to play in the Premier League alongside stating his admiration for Chelsea.
The club is eager to add the striker to their ranks, especially after the injury to Armando Broja. The striker will add some freshness to the attack if he is to stay with the first-team squad. While the most likely fate for the striker looks like a loan move in the English league, Potter might actually integrate the Ivorian for half a season to strengthen the squad depth and decide his future in January.
This could be Chelsea’s first signing after the role changes in the Board and the new regimen looks clear to settle the future with this signing. This comes up with the Nkunku deal close for summer and links with Moukoko and Leao as potential options to revamp the attack
