Madrid CFF’s 24-year-old striker, Geyse Ferreira is closely being followed by this season’s WSL runners up, Arsenal. Her contract runs out this summer and Arsenal are fighting the likes of Atletico Madrid (and obviously Madrid CFF wanting to give her a new contract) for her signature. So, who is Geyse Ferreira?

Geyse Ferreira is in form, scoring 20 goals this season for Madrid CFF, the joint-most with Barcelona’s star striker Asisat Oshoala. At 24 years old she is approaching her prime years as a striker (25-28). She scored a goal once every 109 minutes and has been the main focus for this current Madrid team. So will she really want to play behind Miedema at Arsenal? But before we answer that, let’s have a look at her other offers?

Ferreira scored more than double the goals of Atletico Madrid’s top scorers this season, so it’s no surprise that Óscar Fernández wants to strengthen his attack’s firepower to try and get back into the Champions League spots. As cliche as it is, Ferreira would likely get better service if she moved to Los Colchoneros and she would be more comfortable staying in Spain. Is it possible that she could stay in Spain, but move across Madrid?

Or will she stay with Madrid CFF? Well, after her stellar season, it’ll be Nyon impossible to attempt to keep her for next season. Her contract has run out, so there’s no ability to try and keep her locked in for next season. Geyse came back to Madrid in 2020 after a previous spell there, which may show a sense of attachment or commitment to the club.

WHAT SHE CAN OFFER TO ARSENAL?

Geyse is a well-versed, talented 24-year-old striker, so she can offer a lot to Arsenal. The main one is obviously goals and a brilliant rotation option/backup to one of the world’s greatest strikers in Vivianne Miedema. She would be one hell of a threat to teams in the WSL and would increase Arsenal’s squad depth

WHAT CAN ARSENAL OFFER TO HER?

Well, unless there’s a long term plan between her and the club, not much. She’ll have the chance to play in a league she’s yet to experience. However, after playing over 2000 minutes at the top tier of Spanish football, would she want to trade that for rotation football at Arsenal? Probably not, so she’d want guarantees to be made to her before she moves.

Obviously, the opportunity to play in the Champions League would be brilliant but is that really enough? With Miedema now confirmed to be staying, she wouldn’t be able to play as a sole striker, with Miedema and Blackstenius already being optioned for that spot. So, what will it be for Geyse Ferreira?
