Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel wants to sign Bundesliga striker Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig in the transfer window.

Chelsea are keen to plot a move for the striker this summer and are willing to reinforce their attacking options with the likes of Nkunku. Though the Frenchman is tied with the club till 2024, Leipzig are keen to renew their asset on a longer deal and hopes to keep him in the German top flight for much longer.

The Blues ended their season just managing to finish third on the table after stiff competition posed by the North London rivals. Even more so, the depth in the attack seemed weak throughout the season and they failed to score goals on many occasions.

The likes of Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner, Christian Pulisic, and Hakim Ziyech were unable to find the net more often this season. Now, Tuchel has turned towards the prospect of having the Leipzig striker at Stamford Bridge this summer. The struggles in front of the goal have been well documented during this campaign and Nkunku could help fix this case if the transfer were to happen.

The Frenchman is considered one of the hottest attacking prospects in world football having scored 35 goals and provided 20 assists across all competitions in just 51 games this season. Being able to produce such kinds of numbers in the entire season, is sure the player is hungry for goals and could be the perfect answer to Chelsea’s misery in front of the goal.

The Blues certainly would not want to repeat another Bundesliga star joining the English league and failing to deliver consistently as happened with Werner and Kai Havertz. But with the striker entering his prime at 24, he appears to be on the cusp of making a special career. Due to his red-hot form, Tuchel seems to have no second thoughts to facilitate his move to the English club.

The Stamford Bridge club would first need to offload players upfront to avoid an excessive number of players in the same position. The priority for the Blues is to first reinforce their defence considering the likes of Christensen, Rudiger, and Azpilicueta seemingly leaving the club this summer. Therefore, the natural area to go all out for this summer would be the back of the pitch. But this would not be the only area Tuchel would be concerned to reinforce, the struggle to get goals in crucial matches has been real and it is something the gaffer would like to rectify this summer, hence the interest in Nkunku.

Chelsea have a long summer ahead of them in terms of transfers and the Blues manager seems to have certain potential targets he would like to make a swoop for this summer. These transfers need to happen for them to become a more genuine threat in the Premier League title race. Although it would be difficult to facilitate Nkunku’s move to Stamford Bridge as Leipzig is trying hard to keep him, it would be interesting to see if he makes a move to the English top-flight next season.

Surely, convincing the player to join the club would be tricky but if it does happen, the club and the fans would enjoy the services of the special player he has turned out to be in recent years.
