Ousmane Dembele’s situation at Barcelona is definitely not pleasing for the player and an exit is just inevitable. A move in the summer, or maybe in January, is very much possible for the French International. Many clubs are being considered as potential destinations for the former Dortmund winger but Chelsea looks like the favourite.
How will a player who is leaving his current club due to financial reasons regarding his contract fit at an English club who are known for adamant stance regarding player contracts? Here are the reasons why the club actually wants the player?
LACK OF GOALS BY WINGERS
Champions of Europe have been not in best of forms in the past month and most of it is due to the lack of contribution by their forward line. The defence has been mostly on point and have tried their best to compensate but this can not hide the lack of goals by any of the forwards.
This season Chelsea’s forward line has just managed to score 22 goals in the whole duration and out of these 13 have come from Mount and two strikers. The productivity from the wings is close to nothing with none of the wide players able to produce more than 3 goals this season. This number is more alarming when we know that Chelsea have played more than half a season and are one of the sides to play most matches all across Europe. Dembele can definitely negate the problem as he is a very direct player and is known for his goal contributions.
CONNECTION WITH TUCHEL
Dembele made a move to Barcelona in 2017 after an impressive season at Dortmund. In the season when Dembele introduced himself to Europe as one of the best talents, he was managed by current Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel. The German got the best out of the player where Dembele had 32 goal contributions in a single season.
Back then, Tuchel used to switch between back 4 and back 3 as the way he is doing at Chelsea. In a defense of back 3, Dembele was deployed behind the two attacking forwards in a sort of number 10 role. He used to be the chief creator to create chances and go for goals. In a back 4 system, he was used on either wings or even as number 10. He was complimented by Pulisic on the opposite flank, both of whom were a mess for the opposition to deal with. Tuchel might use this combination again to get the best of the American as well, who is under a lot of criticism lately.
If Dembele wants to recover his form, he will himself be looking to re-unite with the German boss who actually knows how to get the best out of the German.
MONEY TALKS
One thing that will be the only problem in the discussion between the player and club will be the wages. Chelsea will not at all be paying the demands of Dembele which he made at Barcelona. He will have to take a wage cut if he has to join the English club. The choice for Dembele will now be to make a decision between more money or regular time at the top club to revive. Many Chelsea fans are critical of his commitment on the pitch but after all the Barcelona saga, Dembele might be looking for an opportunity to prove his worth on the pitch and thus will then be keeping all the off-field talks away from his form on the pitch.
As per recent reports, Chelsea might even make a move before the end of the January transfer window and complete a loan move for the rest of the season. If not January, a summer move looks very likely for Dembele.
