The recent reports state that Aston Villa are increasingly willing to add the out of favour Spurs midfielder Harry Winks. Villa could move for Winks in a couple of days but what could Spurs pull out of this deal?
Spurs are looking to strengthen their squad by adding new players after a horrendous performance last season. Out of the areas, Centre Back is one of the priority areas for Spurs to strengthen. The Center Backs at Spurs have had a really bad form for quite some time. With Aston Villa wanting to add Harry Winks, Spurs can definitely leverage a deal out of Villa for the centre-back Ezri Konsa. Plus, Ezri Konsa is said to be a boyhood Spurs fan which could favour Spurs if a deal is to possibly materialize.
The 23-year-old has had a great outing last season, featuring in 36 Premier League games and helping keep 13 clean sheets. No doubt the primary factor for the robust defence was the squad’s star performer Emiliano Martinez but Ezri Konsa has really shown what he’s capable in the last two seasons.
It wouldn’t be an easy pull for Spurs but with the new manager Espirito Nuno at the helm, they should surely go for it and if the deal materializes, it would be one of those signings that would bring a lot of excitement to the squad as well as the fan base before the start of the next season.
A Win-Win Scenario for Spurs
Harry Winks has lately dropped down the pecking order after the arrival of the Danish footballer Pierre-Emile Højbjerg from Southampton. In terms of last season, Harry had just featured in 15 Premier League matches out of which he started only in nine. The lack of game time has also brought down the confidence of the young midfielder. It is best that he moves out of Spurs and looks elsewhere.
While Aston Villa are looking for depth and could take in Harry Winks, Spurs who are looking for a Centre Back can really go for their fanboy, Ezri Konsa who would love the prospect of joining Spurs.
