With the 34-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo struggling in Italy, The 32-year-old man Jamie Vardy is the man who’s truly defying age and not the Portuguese International. Vardy, Who is turning 33 in January, is currently leading the Premier League scoring charts with 11 goals in 12 starts and looks set for a 25+ goal season again.
He was doubted as a one-season-wonder in Leicester City’s Premier League winning season, as was his teammates, but he has proved his class over a long period of time, much like his majority of teammates. He averages 19 goals per season in his last four seasons for the Foxes and has proved his mettle as a World Class centre forward and hasn’t failed to make a mark inspite of Superstars such as Sergio Aguero, Harry Kane, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and others playing alongside him.
What’s been even more remarkable is that he hasn’t changed his game with increasing age, Something which the modern day strikers usually do as they turn themselves into a In-the-box striker who rely heavily on his finishing skills rather than movement and tricks. They tend to prefer not taking on the defenders neither do they make those lung bursting runs behind the defense. But Vardy has been different, He has always relied on his pace and the impeccable timming of the runs he makes to get on the wrong side of a defender. And that hasn’t changed nor is his efficiency, as he’s still as effective as ever, That’s what making him stand out amongst the top strikers in the World.
While Leicester has struggled in their pursuit to recruit an able strike partner or a back up for Jamie Vardy, They have been lucky that Vardy hasn’t dropped a level, yet. But age gets to even the best of them, And Leicester City needs to act in the next few transfer windows, But till then, let’s just enjoy “The Vardy Show”.
