A team sitting at the top of the Premier League is struggling? Well that’s the standards Liverpool have set for themselves, the Premier League champions were expected to be comfortable leading the league table by now, however, they currently find themselves tied with Manchester United with the Red Devils having a game in hand after the Reds lost their fixture to Southampton 1-0.
We look at the reasons why Liverpool haven’t been able to match the expectations, yet:
Lack of Hunger
When Jurgen Klopp assembled his side comprising Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Trent Alexander-Arnold, he had a set of extremely talented players who had the hunger to prove to the whole world how good they’re. However, after all these years down the line, after Liverpool have won a Champions League and the Premier League and most of their players are seen as one of the best in the world, one wonders whether some of their players have lost that hunger and if that might be a reason behind the Champions lacking.
Injuries
Liverpool have suffered due to injuries the worst, they have lost so many of their centre-backs due to injury including their usual centre-back pairing in Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez. And they have had to play with a makeshift backline on various occasions. Another important injury happened to summer recruit Deigo Hota who was in great form ever since arriving at the Anfield.
Lack of Competition
Liverpool have been a tightly knitted team in last few years with Jurgen Klopp playing with a more or less the same side match after match. This has made a lot of players undroppable for Liverpool and there is a sense of comfort with the players which might have caused a drop off in their level of performances.
