Manchester United’s peril of form over the recent years after Alex Ferguson’s departure has not yet been resolved. The club has tried every bit to bring back the laurels but have failed to do so.
And while there have been talks of sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to reshape the group, I firmly believe that the manager is no harm, it’s the players that play for the club. If you look at the playing XI of United there are many who shouldn’t be there.
I firmly belied that the like of Ashley Young and Fred and deterring the environment on the pitch. They both make more mistakes than they play. Seldom will their pass reach to the one they want to.
Former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley has named a few United players that should not be there and why.
On Jesse Lingard:
“There’s been one or two people who have been very critical of his off-field activities because when your off-field activities are in the public domain and are very in your face, then you have to be performing on the field and preferably at a team that are performing well.
“For all those reasons, he’s not. I’m not saying he’s a bad player, not saying he’s a bad lad, [but] I’m not keeping him.”
On Fred:
“No, I’m not keeping [Fred]. He’s been so disappointing and in fact, £50million or whatever it was, he’s played a bit recently and every time I see him I’m like ‘I can get a youngster to get that job’.
“He’s been outshone by [Scott] McTominay, simple as that.”
On Marcos Rojo:
“[Rojo’s] a ticking time bomb. Can’t trust him, can’t trust him at all and he’s a red card, disciplinarian headache waiting to happen.”
On Nemanja Matic:
“[Matic’s] legs have gone, he was a desperation signing really at the time. I think that’s one of the reasons Chelsea were happy to get him out.”
On Phil Jones:
“[He’s] been there [at Manchester United] too long, Phil Jones now. He’s had his time there and quite frankly he’s another one of the, we call it deadwood, you call it what you want.”
On Ashley Young:
“Ashley Young, at the end of the day, you love him or hate him, bit of a Marmite character. He isn’t a full-back and he’s a winger who’s been converted. He’s played a World Cup semi-final at left-back, so fair play to the guy.
“I’m not the biggest fan of him, I thought as a youngster he was a decent wide player. Ultimately I think he’s another one I think needs to go.”
