Aston Villa are reportedly looking to fend off interest from Manchester United in Jack Grealish by offering him a new deal which will see him pocket £100k-a-week.
The Villa captain has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford throughout the season, and reports indicates that the player is also keen to take his career to the next level after helping his boyhood club escape relegation from the Premier League last season.
The player is also said to be a transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur, but is the rumours of a move to United which has gained much grounds.
However, the Red Devils are believed to be prioritising a move for Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho before focusing on the Villa skipper, who admitted to being a Man United fan as a child.
According to The Sun, Dean Smith’s are preparing to bump up Grealish’s wage from £70k to £100k per week as they look to keep the Englishman on at Villa Park beyond this summer, with another season in the English top-flight to come.
The 24-year-old’s current deal with the club runs until 2023, but the club are already making plans to tie him down to a longer contract as they wish to ward off interest from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
The reports also claim that Villa want to offer Grealish an additional two years to his existing deal at the Villa Park which will see him increase his wages at the club.
With United securing Champions League football for the 2020/21 season, it is believed that could be a factor in luring Grealish away from the Villans in the summer despite the club not willing accept anything less than for £60 million their skipper.
Grealish was involved directly in 14 goals for Smith’s team, scoring eight goals and laying on six assists as Villa finished a point above the relegation zone.
