Chelsea will get back into Premier League action on Tuesday night when they play host to Norwich City at Stamford Bridge.
Frank Lampard’s side lost their previous league game to Sheffield United, going down with three unanswered goals. The Chelsea manager has been faced with a selection headache with regards to his forward line.
With Michy Batshuayi doing little to be trusted by the gaffer, Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud have been in the plans of the former England international for the majority of the 2019/20 season.
The pair are of course two different kinds of strikers, with Giroud playing more as a target man, while Abraham is more direct in front of goal.
Ahead of their clash with the Canaries, who suffered relegation after their humiliating 0-4 loss to West Ham United over the weekend. Here, we take a look at who could be a better choice to start as the striker for the Blues against Norwich.
Abraham has started 25 of the 31 matches he has played in the 2019/20 Premier League, netting on 14 occasions. His goals have somewhat dried up in the second half of the campaign, scoring just twice in the top flight since the turn of the year.
Tammy’s form could be attributed to an injury he picked up along the line, which has seen him struggle to replicate his form in the first five months of this term.
Olivier Giroud on the other hand was more of a fringe player during the start of the season, which led to speculations he could be on the move at the end of the season. However, he turned around the table to earn the manager’s trust, and the Frenchman’s has been a good one for Chelsea as they seek to play in the Champions League next season.
The 33-year-old has score five league goals in nine starts, with his last three coming after the league’s restart.
Giroud’s ability to link up play has been positive for the likes of Christian Pulisic and William who have been deployed on the wings. His absence in the game against the Blades over the weekend saw Lampard’s team lacking any attacking threats at the Bramall Lane.
With Manchester United also dropping points on Monday night, Lampard could be set to restore the France international into his team as they look to close in on a top four position.
Do you think Giroud is the best option for Lampard upfront ahead of Abraham? Well, for now that will have to be the stance.
