According to reports circulating on Sunday evening, Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic has signed a new contract at Old Trafford until June 2023.
Prior to the second half of the season, Matic was linked with a move away from the Premier League due to his very little involvement in games for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team.
He was said to have become frustrated after failing to earn a starting spot in the Norwegian’s squad, and was willing to part ways with the club.
However, the Serbia international has become a vital figure in the Red Devils team in 2020, starting 12 of their last 14 Premier League games. He has also been a part of the club’s 15 games unbeaten run across all competitions.
Renowned Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports that the 13-time Premier League champions have extended the former Chelsea player’s contract, adding that he has signed a new deal which runs until the summer 2023.
The 31-year-old has played 114 games for the club since making the move from London to Manchester United in July 2017.
The 2019/20 season has seen him made 27 appearances in all competitions, while scoring one goal ( in the Carabao Cup).
Solskjaer’s men are up against Aston Villa at the Villa Park in their next league game on Thursday, as they look to make it four consecutive Premier League wins.
