Thiago Alcantara’s interest in joining Liverpool could mean a major shake-up for Premier League’s champions elect. The Bayern Munich midfielder was expected to sign a new deal with the German Champions but instead had a change of heart at the last moment. It is being told that he couldn’t explain what was stopping him from signing the deal to himself.
Now, it’s been reported that he has serious interest in joining Jurgen Klopp’s side. This is a major development for Liverpool and it’s owners who have come under heavy scrutiny from their fans for lack of ambition and financial backing to the club. The Reds lost out on an extremely keen Timo Werner to Premier League rivals Chelsea. This was met with heavy agitation from the fans as the German forward had time and again made his wish clear to join the English giants. However, Liverpool are said to be playing the waiting game on him as they couldn’t afford to pay his release clause.
With Thiago Alcantara, Liverpool are given another opportunity to woo their fans as the former Real Madrid man can prove to be the big name signing the fans were waiting for. He has just a year left on his contract and could very well be available for a reasonable fee if he’s actually given up on signing a new deal with Bayern Munich. Which wasn’t the case with Werner who while actively looking for a move away from RB Leipzig.
Jurgen Klopp is not short of midfielders by any means, he has Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keïta and Fabinho, all first team players who are all competing for places in the first team. However, a player of Thiago Alcantara’s pedigree would be difficult to reject even for the Premier League champions. And with contract difficulties with Wijnaldum and Fabinho not at his best, there might just be a possibility for Thiago Alcantara at Liverpool.
