Premier League is back to our screens on Wednesday after a three month hiatus. The top four race is not the only challenge looking tough ahead of the return.

The Premier League Golden Boot is another of those individual honours up for grabs but who is looking the most likely to get his hands on it?

We take a look at the current top five in the race for the award, having seen Mohammed Salah, Sadio Mane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang all poached the award last season.

1. Jamie Vardy – 19 Goals

Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy is at the top of the 2019/20 season’s top scorer chart. The forward has 19 goals in 26 games for the club in the Premier League, with nine games to go. Vardy has scored just two goals of his league goals against the current top four sides.

With the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur among the rest of the fixtures for the Foxes, the 33-year-old could only hope for a blistering return to form for the season’s remainder.

2. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 17 Goals

The Gabon international is continuing from where he left off last season despite Arsenal’s poor run of form in the league which has seen them drop to ninth.

Aubameyang will be chasing for a personal glory if the team’s ambitions cannot be fulfilled. Quite a difficult tests coming up for him in the remainder of the season as they prepare to take on Manchester City on Wednesday.

But a striker of his quality should make the difference in a game they tend to the inferior. He could make a big statement with a goal against the defending champions.

3. Sergio Aguero – 16 Goals

Unlike Aubameyang, Manchester City Aguero is only one short of the player ahead of him. His 16 goals have come in 22 appearances, starting 17 of those outings.

Aguero is always a good competitor for the Golden Boot but Pep Guardiola’s rotation in the last two seasons have seen the forward stay back from such honors, though he is mostly not too far.

4. Mohammed Salah – 16 goals

Salah is on par with Aguero, both on 16 goals but Salah’s has come in 26 games for Liverpool. Last season’s winner continues to battle in order to return the boot, but he would first have to overtake the Argentine and the Arsenal forward before fighting with Vardy.

With nine games to go, he stands a chance of winning it for the third time and that wouldn’t surprise many, due to his eye for goal.

5. Danny Ings – 15 goals

A surprise inclusion on this list is Danny Ings. The Southampton forward enjoyed a fine form between November and January which saw him score nine goals.

Although he scored only one in four games prior to the lockdown, he still remains a good competitor with some good fixtures coming up for the Saints.
