Manchester United’s midfielder, Paul Pogba has to compete to earn his place at Old Trafford, according to Paul Scholes.
The 27-year-old has been out from the squad due to injury and has managed a few games, having undergone ankle surgery in January before the Premier league was halted.
Pogba is now fully recovered and has joined the team in training as Manchester United prepare ahead of the Premier League Project Restart with their first match against Tottenham Hotspur on June 19.
However, The Red Devils legend believes the midfielder has to prove himself worthy again to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer due to his long stay away from football.
He said: “Paul has got a little bit of work to do to get into the team. Before the outbreak happened and the stop happened, you have to say that the players that were playing – Nemanja Matic, Scott McTominay and Fred – they were really doing well in midfield.”
“It’s not going to be straightforward for Paul. He’s got some work on his hands just to get back into the team. But we all know what Paul’s capable of. He’s a top player when he’s on form.
“The better players you play with – surely that can only be to the benefit of the team”.
With Pogba’s return, United fans, as well as football fans are excited and anticipating for a ‘Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes‘ partnership.
The Portugal international has been a massive influence on the team since his arrival and has managed three goals and assisted four times in nine appearances.
Scholes also compares Bruno to David Silva of Manchester City, as he believes the Portuguese will go down in the history books of United just like Silva did for City.
“Sometimes it just takes one player to turn a team around and knit a team together,” Scholes told an MUTV group chat.
“I don’t like talking about City, but you think of David Silva – that player that links all the play together, and I think we’ve found him in Fernandes. He’s totally transformed the team.”
