Former England international and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has professed his uncertainty over Liverpool’s hope on signing their long time target and RB Leipzig star Timo Werner this summer.
Upon numerous reports, Werner looks destined to be making a move to Anfield this summer but given the Reds’ attacking talent and the horrible effect of the pandemic crisis on club’s finances, his signing this summer now seems to be in doubt.
According to an interview by Jamie Carragher, he opined that:
“I think there was a good chance of it happening before the [global health crisis] happened,” Carragher told the Liverpool Echo.
“But financially now you don’t know what state clubs are in. I actually saw something on Twitter before about Man United’s financial results so, you would expect Liverpool to be pretty similar [as to] how they’ve been affected. I am sure that will affect the transfer market.
“I don’t think Liverpool can complain too much with the squad they’ve got at the moment. They’ve lost one league game all season and one last season. There’s certainly not too much that needs too change but I do feel a top attacking player is needed but if the finances aren’t there, they aren’t there.”
Though, obviously, Liverpool has the quality upfront who are still capable of producing spectacular performances for 3 – 4 more years if they can resist the temptation of going abroad to earn more more money.
Mohammed Salah, Firminho and Sadio Mane have formed a formidable and unshakable partnership, terrorising every defense since their partnership took off.
But with Werner’s 19 goals/assists contributions in 41 appearances across all competitions this season, he definitely would have added some spine and quality options at the attack, but if the transfer fails to materialise or pending till next summer, Divock Origi will still be relied upon to continue his impressive cameo appearances for the club.
