Leeds United star receive interest from Tottenham, Newcastle & Aston Villa

Pascal Struijk is entering the final year of his contract at Leeds United, and three Premier League clubs are already taking notice.

According to Sports Boom, Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United are all showing interest in the Dutch centre-back ahead of the summer window, putting Daniel Farke’s side in the uncomfortable position of deciding whether to cash in or offer their long-serving defender a new deal. Either way, Leeds face a decision that could shape their squad significantly going into next season.

Struijk has been at Elland Road since 2020, coming through their Under-19 setup after joining from Ajax. He has made 188 appearances across all competitions and played a key role in Leeds’ two promotions back to the Premier League.

And at twenty-six, he is entering his prime years as a centre-back and that is exactly what has got clubs operating at the top end of the division taking a closer look at him ahead of the summer.

Each of the three clubs has a different but legitimate reason for pursuing Struijk.

At Tottenham, the possible departure of Micky van de Ven this summer would leave a significant gap on the left side of defence. Struijk, as a left-footed centre-back comfortable in that role, is seen as a credible replacement. Interestingly, the interest from Spurs is reported to remain relevant even in a relegation scenario with the financial package on offer potentially enough to attract the player regardless of league status.

Aston Villa’s situation involves Pau Torres, who could leave Villa Park this summer. Struijk fits the left-footed centre-back profile that Torres has occupied, and Villa are reportedly considering a £20 million offer to test Leeds’ resolve.

Newcastle, meanwhile, are contemplating selling Sven Botman and have been linked with Alessandro Buongiorno from Napoli as a replacement. Struijk, as a Dutch defender with Premier League experience, could be seen as an alternative option that comes at a lower cost.

Leeds are said to be looking for around £30 million for Struijk, a figure that reflects both his quality and their desire not to sell a key player cheaply. That asking price creates an interesting tension in the market.

Villa are reportedly prepared to open with £20 million, well below what Leeds want. Struijk entering the final year of his contract weakens Leeds’ negotiating position considerably as they can hold out for £30 million and risk him walking away for nothing in twelve months, or accept a lower fee now.

That contract situation is the critical factor for all three interested clubs.

If Leeds do not get a renewal agreed quickly, the asking price will only become harder to justify as the summer progresses. A player with twelve months remaining on his deal simply does not command the same fee as one who is tied down long-term, and every week without a resolution works in the buyers’ favour.
