Manchester United are gearing up to make an offer worth €80 million for Athletic Club attacking mainstay Nico Williams.

Williams’ future has become a major talking point as we slowly close in towards the summer transfer window. The Athletic Club star could finally end up joining a bigger club and suddenly Old Trafford has emerged as a potential destination for the 23-year-old.

According to a report from Fichajes, the Red Devils are looking to add more quality on the flanks, and they consider Williams a perfect fit for their system. They are preparing an €80 million offer to get him out of Spain.

Williams has come up the ranks at Athletic Club. He has been a part of their setup since his childhood days. The Spanish international went up the ranks at some pace and got promoted to their first team in the summer of 2021.

Not only has he gone from strength to strength over the years, but Williams has also managed to establish himself as one of the best young forwards in the world.

While he has had a few injury issues in the ongoing campaign, the 23-year-old still has 10 goal contributions in his 26 outings. He looked set to leave the club last summer for Barcelona. However, the move did not go through, and he ended up signing a massive ten-year deal.

While he did commit his long-term future, Williams could still end up parting ways with the Spanish outfit this summer.

While Athletic Club have been reluctant to sell him for years now, their stance seems to have softened, and they could let him go for the right price. Manchester United have emerged as the most serious suitors at this stage.

The Red Devils seek more firepower, and they consider the young left-winger to be the missing piece in their front line. They believe his arrival would give them enough quality to rival the biggest clubs in the country. With Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho set to leave the club permanently, United are plotting a big-money move for Williams.

Athletic Club soften stance on Williams departure

They are reportedly ready to fork out €80 million to bring him to Old Trafford. They are looking to get ahead of the competition and swiftly secure his services with this offer. Meanwhile, the player could be interested in a switch, as it will give him the opportunity to establish himself as a global star.

Williams signed a ten-year contract last summer after his Barcelona move collapsed. That deal gives Athletic Club enormous negotiating power. However, their willingness to consider offers suggests they recognize the financial benefit of selling at the peak of his value.

Manchester United need to replace outgoing wingers. With Rashford expected to leave permanently this summer. Williams represents the profile United typically target: young, technically gifted and proven at the highest level with Spain.

His performances for the national team have demonstrated his ability to perform on the biggest stages.

Whether €80 million proves sufficient to convince Athletic Club remains uncertain.

The Basque club have historically demanded premium fees for their academy graduates. Williams’ ten-year contract strengthens their position significantly.
