Manchester United and Chelsea are tracking RB Leipzig midfielder Assan Ouedraogo ahead of a potential summer move to the Premier League. The 19-year-old has attracted significant interest from top English clubs following his breakthrough performances in the Bundesliga this season. Journalist Florian Plettenberg reports that Premier League sides are eager to secure his signature when the transfer window opens.

Ouedraogo joined Leipzig from Schalke in January 2024 after impressing at youth level. His debut season was disrupted by injury problems that restricted him to minimal appearances. He managed just three Bundesliga substitute appearances and one German Cup outing across two separate injury spells.

The current campaign has seen him flourish. He has contributed six goals and assists combined in his last eight league matches. His form earned him a Germany call-up, where he scored on debut to become the youngest player to achieve that feat since Klaus Stürmer in October 1954. Leipzig boss Ole Werner called him an “unbelievable talent” after Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Werder Bremen, where Ouedraogo scored again.

Plettenberg claims English clubs are enthusiastic about signing the German international before next season begins. Manchester United and Chelsea lead the pursuit among Premier League teams monitoring his situation closely. Both clubs see him as a valuable addition to their midfield options.

Leipzig hold him under contract until 2029 with no release clause included. The German club typically command high fees for their players and will expect substantial offers. His current market value sits at £8 million according to Transfermarkt, but any deal would likely cost significantly more given his recent performances and age profile.

Playing time could influence Ouedraogo decision

Chelsea continue their policy of recruiting promising young talent from across Europe. Their interest in Ouedraogo fits that established pattern. The Blues have invested heavily in youth recently and view the Leipzig midfielder as another potential long-term asset.

Man United may hold an advantage due to their squad situation. Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte all face uncertain futures at Old Trafford. That creates space for a new midfielder to establish himself quickly. With the 2026 World Cup approaching in seven months, regular minutes will be crucial for Ouedraogo’s international ambitions.

Manchester United signed Benjamin Sesko from Leipzig last summer. That existing relationship with the German club could help facilitate negotiations for Ouedraogo. United have demonstrated their willingness to do business with Leipzig and may find it easier to agree terms compared to rivals.

Leipzig have proven willing to sell players when appropriate offers arrive. Their business model relies partly on developing talent and selling at profit. Ouedraogo’s value has risen sharply following his Germany debut and consistent Bundesliga displays. Both United and Chelsea must prepare significant bids if they want to convince Leipzig to part with their teenage midfielder ahead of the summer window.
