Man United weigh a January raid on Leeds for the striker with 75 Premier League goals who scored against them this month

Manchester United are weighing up a January move for Leeds United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, a forward with 75 Premier League goals to his name.
According to the Daily Mail, as reported by Sports Mole, the Red Devils are admirers of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and are considering a swoop when the winter window opens.
It is not a new idea at Old Trafford either. United are believed to have looked at the 29-year-old in the summer of 2025, when he was released by Everton, before Leeds got there first.
Why Man United want Calvert-Lewin
The move to Elland Road has worked out nicely for Leeds. Calvert-Lewin has 20 goals and one assist in 49 appearances for the club, including 15 goals in all competitions last season.
He has kept that going in 2026-27 too, with five goals in 10 appearances so far. One of those came against Manchester United in the Premier League earlier this month, and it is understood that the performance did his reputation no harm at all with the people who matter in M16.
Michael Carrick reflected on that draw with Leeds afterwards, and the clip is below.
Calvert-Lewin’s Premier League record in numbers
The appeal is obvious. This is a striker who knows the league inside out.
| Record | Apps | Goals | Assists |
|---|---|---|---|
| Premier League career | 282 | 75 | 19 |
| Leeds United (all competitions) | 49 | 20 | 1 |
| England | 14 | 4 | – |
He is also tied to Leeds until June 2028, so there is no contract pressure on the Yorkshire club to cash in.
Will Leeds sell Calvert-Lewin to Man United?
That is the big catch. The report claims a deal is seen as difficult, particularly in the middle of a season, given the rivalry between the two clubs.
Selling a striker in this kind of form in January is hard enough. Selling him to Manchester United is the kind of thing Leeds supporters would not forgive in a hurry, and with more than two and a half years left on his deal, Leeds hold every card.
Why United are short up front
The timing is no accident. Benjamin Sesko has managed just six appearances this season because of a long-term shin problem, and the Slovenia international is expected to be out until at least January.
Joshua Zirkzee does not have a long-term future at Old Trafford, while Bryan Mbeumo has impressed at times through the middle but is more influential off the right. That leaves United thin at centre-forward for the second half of the campaign.
Calvert-Lewin to Man United makes sense, if Leeds ever pick up the phone
On paper, this ticks almost every box. Proven in the Premier League, in form, an England international, and a player United already looked at once. For a squad that needs a reliable No.9 while Sesko recovers, that pedigree is exactly what is missing.
Fitness has been a talking point before, and Leeds fans will remember sweating on his fitness before a big relegation clash last season. But the bigger obstacle is not his body, it is the badge. I would be amazed if Leeds sold an in-form striker to United mid-season, and United’s winter business may well have to look elsewhere.
