According to TeamTalk, Newcastle United are weighing up moves for both Liam Delap and Nicolas Jackson ahead of the summer window.
Two Chelsea strikers, two very different situations, but one thing in common neither would be a particularly difficult sell for the Blues if the right offer came in.
Newcastle’s interest makes sense when you look at their recent history in the market.
The Magpies were expected to land Joao Pedro from Brighton last summer, only to miss out when Chelsea moved quickly to sign him.
They pivoted to Nick Woltemade as an alternative, and by most accounts it has not worked out as hoped. With attacking reinforcements still clearly needed at St. James’ Park, they are back in the hunt and Chelsea’s squad could provide the answers they are looking for.
Liam Delap and Nicolas Jackson both on Newcastle United’s summer striker shortlist
Delap is currently operating as backup at the Bridge, and his opportunities for regular first-team football have been limited.
At 22, he is at a stage of his career where consistent minutes matter enormously, and a move to a club where he would be a genuine starter could be exactly what he needs.
Newcastle would offer him that platform, and the Premier League experience he already has makes him a low-risk option for Eddie Howe’s side.
Jackson’s situation is quite different. The Senegal international is currently on loan at Bayern Munich, which in itself signals that his long-term future at Stamford Bridge is far from certain.
And that spell in Germany is not looking quite impressive as well. So when the summer arrives, Chelsea will likely be open to listening to offers if the fee is right.
Can Newcastle afford a Nicolas Jackson or Liam Delap Chelsea transfer this summer
That is the key question hanging over this whole story. Newcastle spent heavily last summer, bringing in both Woltemade and Yoane Wissa, and that outlay may have left them with less room to manoeuvre in the next window.
Jackson in particular would command a significant fee given how Chelsea will cite how much Bayern paid for his loan move.
Delap could represent a more financially realistic option if Newcastle are working within tighter constraints.
He has Premier League pedigree, he is still young, and Chelsea may be willing to negotiate if it means freeing up wages and a squad spot.
Whether Newcastle pursue one or both players will likely depend on how their budget looks once the season concludes.
