Not Bruno: Real Madrid target Manchester United star for a summer move; He will replace Alexander-Arnold in Spanish capital

Real Madrid are pursuing Diogo Dalot as they search for a long-term solution at right-back.

Spanish outlet Fichajes reports Los Blancos have identified the Manchester United defender as a potential summer signing with the 27-year-old impressing in what has been an excellent campaign for United in the recent months and the Portuguese now attracts attention from one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Real Madrid are in need of defensive reinforcements after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s disappointing first season at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Alexander-Arnold joined from Liverpool last summer but has struggled to replicate his Premier League form in Spain. Real Madrid brought him as the long-term successor to Dani Carvajal but his transition to La Liga has not gone smoothly as defensive vulnerabilities continue to undermine what he brings to the offensive side of the game and this has forced Madrid to reconsider their options.

This is where Dalot comes in given how the Portuguese is a more defensively sound alternative with proven consistency at elite level.

Dalot has developed into one of the Premier League’s most reliable full-backs during his time at Old Trafford.

The Portuguese international combines defensive solidity with attacking output, providing balance on the right flank.

His performances this season have helped Manchester United push for Champions League qualification under Michael Carrick’s management. Madrid have monitored him for an extended period, according to the aforementioned report.

Madrid’s interest could test United’s resolve if a concrete offer arrives.

Dalot might find the opportunity to join one of the world’s biggest clubs appealing at this stage of his career. The 27-year-old Portuguese international is entering his prime years and wants to compete for the highest honors and Madrid can offer Champions League football and realistic chances of winning La Liga titles every season.

Man United cannot currently match that proposition despite their recent improvement.

The Manchester Reds remain in a rebuilding phase under Carrick and even a thought of challenging Arsenal and Manchester City for the Premier League title remains a distant dream. European success also feels distant given the strength of competition that we are seeing in the Champions League this season.

Fichajes does go on to state that Diogo Dalot would not be a primary summer target at Madrid. But if they are to move for him, the Spanish giants may need to pay a substantial fee.
