Manchester United are finally starting to look like Manchester United again. And pundits are taking notice.
Jamie Redknapp has given credit where it’s due following United’s 4-2 win over Brighton, singling out summer arrivals Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo as two players who “look like real Man Utd players.”
Ruben Amorim’s side has now picked up three wins on the bounce in the Premier League and while late Brighton goals did cause some nerves at Old Trafford, the overall performance was strong especially going forward.
Mbeumo and Cunha: The new face of United’s frontline
These two have been at the centre of it all.
Mbeumo got himself another brace to seal the win, while Cunha finally got his much‑awaited first goal in red. Both players didn’t just get their names on the scoresheet: they brought intensity, link‑up play, and that bit of personality that has been missing in recent seasons at Old Trafford.
Redknapp, speaking on Sky Sports after the match, was clear in his verdict:
“Man Utd have had a lot of stick for their recruitment, but right now they are getting it spot on. Mbeumo and Cunha are loving it and they look like real Man Utd players.”
And he’s not wrong. Cunha, who grew up watching United, celebrated his first goal by kissing the badge and pointing to the fans. Mbeumo, meanwhile, looks like he’s been playing at Old Trafford for years. The chemistry between them is growing, and the numbers are already starting to back it up.
United’s recruitment finally delivering?
For all the chaos of the post‑Ferguson era, transfer strategy has been one of the biggest criticisms. Big names, wrong fits, short‑term thinking. But Amorim, alongside INEOS, seems to be flipping the script.
Instead of marquee names, United went for system players, Cunha and Mbeumo being perfect examples. Both have adapted quickly, both are contributing consistently, and both are helping shift the mood around M16.
Redknapp praised United’s ability to “stay calm and controlled” for most of the Brighton game, something we haven’t seen in a while. Even when the Seagulls fought back late on, United responded well. Mbeumo’s stoppage-time second killed the game and ensured the three points stayed in Manchester.
Author Opinion
You can tell when a signing fits. There’s a swagger, a sense of belonging. Both Cunha and Mbeumo have that. And that’s exactly what Redknapp was getting at, these two look like they were made to wear the shirt.
If United keep backing Amorim and targeting the right profiles, there’s no reason they can’t climb right back to the top.
This is just the beginning but the early signs are looking spot on.
