Newcastle United are now firmly in the mix for Vasco da Gama forward Rayan, with chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan personally keen on landing the highly-rated Brazilian talent. According to reports in Brazil via NT Vascaínos, the Magpies are seriously weighing up an offer for the 19-year-old striker, a player Al-Rumayyan views as a long-term project with top-tier potential.
Sources claim Al-Rumayyan has already spoken with trusted agents in Brazil about Rayan and sees the teenager as one of the most promising young attackers in South America. Talks have advanced to the point where a formal offer is being considered.
Newcastle still building post-Isak
Despite splashing big money on Nick Woltemade (£65m) and Yoane Wissa (£55m) this past summer and banking a record £125m from selling Alexander Isak to Liverpool, Newcastle still want more firepower. Rayan is viewed as a different kind of signing. Not one to slot in right away, but someone to grow with the project over the next few years.
Tottenham and Aston Villa also in the hunt for Rayan
Newcastle aren’t alone. Tottenham are closely tracking Rayan’s development and have reportedly reached out to Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil staff to see if a senior call-up could be on the horizon. Villa have also been quietly monitoring the player and are expected to push if there’s movement.
Rayan has bagged 14 goals in 2025, thriving under Fernando Diniz’s setup at Vasco, and is regarded as one of the most complete young forwards in the Brasileirão.
Vasco want around €30m for Rayan but are protected by a €40m release clause. The club are battling for form domestically and reluctant to sell their leading scorer before year’s end. However, growing Premier League interest could force their hand.
Newcastle entering the race changes the dynamics. With Al-Rumayyan backing the pursuit personally, it’s a sign the Magpies are ready to compete for major young talent again. Spurs and Villa may have been leading the chase but now, it’s game on.
