Real Madrid are tracking Micky van de Ven as they look to bolster their backline for the long term.

The Tottenham defender has made a huge impression since his move from Wolfsburg in 2023. His pace, recovery instincts and composure in possession have all stood out. He’s formed a solid partnership with Cristian Romero, and that’s not gone unnoticed. Van de Ven is now on Madrid’s radar ahead of a possible 2026 move.

Xabi Alonso is planning for the future at the Bernabeu. David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger are both heading towards the final chapters of their careers, and while Dean Huijsen came in this summer, Madrid want more depth. The club were initially looking at Romero but have since turned to Van de Ven. He’s younger, quicker and fits the profile of a modern Madrid centre-back.

Tottenham won’t make it easy. Van de Ven is tied down until 2029 and there’s no release clause. The North London club have made it clear they value him at around €80 million. That’s the ballpark it will take for any serious talks to happen.

Madrid will weigh up the risks. Van de Ven has had some minor injury issues since arriving in the Premier League, but when fit, he’s looked like one of the league’s best defenders. He’s just 24, and there’s a feeling his ceiling is still rising.

It’s one to keep an eye on as the season develops. If Van de Ven continues to impress, expect the interest from Madrid to intensify. Spurs will hold firm, but Real have history when it comes to getting who they want.
