Nicolas Jackson’s dramatic deadline day move to Bayern Munich wasn’t as smooth as it looked. According to Fabrizio Romano, the 24-year-old told Chelsea he no longer wanted to play for the club even after they tried to cancel his transfer due to an injury to Liam Delap.

Jackson had slipped down the pecking order following Chelsea’s signings of Delap and Joao Pedro. Despite interest from Newcastle and Aston Villa, it was Bayern who came forward with a loan offer including an option to buy. Chelsea initially accepted until Delap picked up an injury against Fulham.

In a last-minute twist, Chelsea pulled the plug and asked Jackson to return to London. He had just landed in Munich. But Jackson refused. He stayed in Germany and made it clear he was finished at Stamford Bridge, at least on the pitch.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano explained what unfolded behind the scenes: “After Delap’s injury, Chelsea told Bayern and Jackson’s agents to stop every single conversation. But Jackson’s immediate reaction was, I don’t want to play for Chelsea anymore.”

Romano added that while Jackson maintained “maximum respect” for the club and still has a good relationship with those at Chelsea, he felt everything was “broken from a sporting point of view.” The move was eventually completed with a new clause, Bayern now have an obligation to buy based on appearances.

Chelsea turn to Marc Guiu after Jackson exit

With Jackson gone and Delap sidelined, Chelsea moved quickly to recall Marc Guiu from Sunderland. The teenage striker had only joined the Championship side earlier this summer but is now back at Cobham to provide cover.

Guiu made just 13 minutes of Premier League action with Sunderland but did score in the Carabao Cup. It’s unclear how heavily he’ll be used by Enzo Maresca, but Chelsea’s striker depth has been stretched thin by the events of the last 72 hours.

Jackson’s Chelsea chapter ends on a sour note

Jackson arrived at Stamford Bridge with high hopes but never fully settled into a consistent role. His departure now looks inevitable and the fact that he forced the move through speaks volumes about the breakdown between player and club.

For Bayern, it’s a smart gamble. For Chelsea, it’s a clear sign of tension beneath the surface and a reminder that not every part of their summer business went to plan.
