According to reports, AS Roma have reached a verbal agreement with Aston Villa for Leon Bailey. The deal is structured as a loan with an option to buy. Bailey previously impressed at Bayer Leverkusen before his move to Aston Villa in the summer of 2021.

Bailey initially played a significant role for Aston Villa. However, his involvement decreased last season under Unai Emery. He featured in 38 matches but accumulated just over 2,000 minutes, contributing six goals. As a result, speculation surrounding his future at the club increased.

Unai Emery appears to no longer consider Bailey a key part of his plans. Aston Villa were open to a transfer despite the player having two years remaining on his contract. The player himself has been eager to find a team where he can secure a more prominent role.

AS Roma have been monitoring Bailey’s situation closely. They identified an opportunity and pursued the player. Bailey was very interested in joining AS Roma, giving the Italian club an advantage during negotiations. After negotiations with Aston Villa, AS Roma have agreed to a loan deal. The Italian club will pay a loan fee between €2 and €3 million, with a buy option set at €22 million.

Despite interest from other clubs, Bailey prioritized a move to AS Roma. With an agreement in principle reached and personal terms not an issue, the 25-year-old winger is expected to be authorized to travel to Rome for his medical. This move offers him a fresh start in Serie A.

The completion of this deal would represent a positive move for both AS Roma and the player. The Serie A side gains a talented winger looking to revive his career, while the player gets the chance for consistent playing time. It remains to be seen how quickly he will integrate into the Roma squad and make an impact on the pitch.
