West Ham United are considering a move for Stoke City goalkeeper Viktor Johansson as they explore options to strengthen their goalkeeping department. The 26-year-old Sweden international has emerged as a potential target following Lukasz Fabianski’s departure and ongoing doubts over Alphonse Areola’s consistency. Johansson’s strong Championship form has brought him to the attention of several clubs, including sides in the Premier League and Serie A.

Johansson joined Stoke City from Rotherham United last summer and quickly established himself as a reliable presence between the posts. He kept 15 clean sheets in 49 appearances during the 2024/25 campaign, despite Stoke’s struggles in the second tier. His form has prompted interest beyond the EFL, with Premier League clubs and European sides monitoring his availability.

West Ham are reportedly tracking Johansson as part of their efforts to bolster David Moyes’s squad this summer. The East London club are targeting experienced but affordable players who can offer consistency across a demanding season. While Johansson has never featured in the Premier League, his performances in the Championship and international pedigree suggest he could adapt quickly to top-flight demands.

The Hammers, however, are not alone in their pursuit. Bournemouth and Italian side Como 1907 have also been linked with the Swedish goalkeeper. With multiple clubs showing interest, Stoke City could be in a strong position to negotiate a favourable fee. Johansson’s future may depend on which club can offer the clearest pathway to regular minutes.

West Ham also eyeing John Victor

Despite the interest in Johansson, West Ham are reportedly in advanced talks to sign another goalkeeper Brazilian shot-stopper John Victor who plays as a goalkeeper for Botafogo. This could complicate their pursuit of Johansson, especially if the club chooses to focus their resources on securing Victor instead. As a result, West Ham may ultimately decide against entering a bidding war for the Stoke City keeper.

Johansson’s situation remains fluid, with Premier League interest growing. Whether West Ham make a formal offer may hinge on how their talks with John Victor progress in the coming days.
