Sunderland have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Chelsea forward Marc Guiu on loan for the 2025/26 season. The move aims to provide the young talent with consistent first-team opportunities. Despite the loan, Chelsea views Guiu as a key component of their future plans. The Black Cats will be hoping the young Spaniard can provide a spark in the final third.
Sunderland secure loan deal for Chelsea’s Marc Guiu
According to reports, Sunderland have agreed to a loan deal for Chelsea forward Marc Guiu for the 2025/26 season. Chelsea apparently want to ensure that he receives regular first-team playing time next season to aid his development. The Spanish youth international is highly rated at Stamford Bridge.
Guiu, a product of Barcelona’s La Masia academy, quickly progressed through the ranks. He earned a promotion to Barcelona’s first team at the beginning of 2024. Chelsea then acquired the 19-year-old forward after just a few appearances for the La Liga side.
Marc Guiu impact at Chelsea
Since his arrival at Stamford Bridge last summer, Guiu has participated in 16 matches. He has scored six goals in just over 600 minutes of first-team action. While showing promise, the current manager was seemingly unable to guarantee him consistent playing time last season.
With Chelsea adding attacking options, it appears uncertain whether Guiu will secure regular first-team action this season. Consequently, the London club sought a loan move for him to another Premier League club. They preferred a move within the top flight to help him adapt to English football.
Black Cats look to avoid relegation
Sunderland emerged as a potential destination, seeking to bolster their squad and avoid relegation. Their manager wants more options in the final third and believes Guiu could be a valuable addition. His goal-scoring ability and work rate could prove beneficial.
Sunderland will cover the entirety of the teenage sensation’s salary during the loan. He is expected to play a significant role for the team. The loan agreement does not include any option to buy, as Chelsea retains full confidence in Guiu and considers him essential to their long-term vision.
