Luis Diaz’s future at Anfield is far from secure. The winger is reportedly unhappy with the club’s stance on a new contract. Liverpool have seemingly cooled their interest in offering him improved terms. This situation could pave the way for a young player to break into the first team.

Liverpool will likely seek a replacement if Diaz departs. However, a promising youth player is waiting in the wings. Rio Ngumoha has caught the eye since his arrival from Chelsea in 2024.

Ngumoha already boasts a senior appearance for Liverpool. He featured in the FA Cup victory against Accrington Stanley. Despite Liverpool’s interest in a new left winger, Ngumoha could see more first-team action next season.

Graeme Bailey, TBR Football’s chief correspondent, shed light on the situation. “If both Nunez and Diaz leave, Liverpool are expected to sign a left winger and a centre forward to fill those gaps,” he said. “But separately, there’s talk about Rio Ngumoha, a 16-year-old who could be involved with the first team next season.”

Bailey added: “If Ngumoha gets opportunities on the left alongside players like Cody Gakpo, it raises the question of how urgent the need really is for another left-sided signing. But from what I’m hearing, Liverpool still want to bring someone in for that position.”

Ngumoha joined Liverpool as a 15-year-old. Due to regulations, he could only sign scholarship terms. Now, with his 17th birthday approaching in August, he is eligible for a professional contract. Liverpool are expected to offer him a deal.

Slot’s willingness to trust youth could be crucial. It might provide Ngumoha with the platform to prove himself. This could affect Liverpool’s transfer strategy this summer. Liverpool are aiming to blend youth prospects with proven talent. The coming weeks will be very telling as to whether they can find the balance.
