Everton have officially entered the race to sign Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz, submitting a structured loan bid with an obligation to buy.

According to TeamTalk, the Blues are hoping to secure the 27-year-old on a deal that could reach €35 million (£30.2m) in total, as Juventus prepare to cash in on a player they only signed 12 months ago.

Luiz was a star at Aston Villa before his big-money move to Turin last summer, but things haven’t gone to plan in Italy. Despite joining Juventus for €49 million, he’s managed just three Serie A starts and finds himself on the transfer list heading into the new season.

Now, he wants a Premier League return—and Everton are moving fast.

David Moyes wants proven Premier League quality in midfield, and Luiz fits the bill. The report claims Everton have already submitted their offer—a loan with a mandatory purchase clause—something Juventus are willing to accept.

But Everton aren’t the only club keen.

West Ham United and Aston Villa are both said to be preparing bids of their own, with Villa particularly keen on a reunion. It’s worth noting that Luiz’s best form came in a Villa shirt, so there may be sentimental appeal there.

That said, Everton’s speed in this deal may prove crucial. While others are still preparing their approaches, the Toffees have already made theirs.

Juventus raise valuation as English clubs enter the fray

Juventus initially hoped to sell Luiz for around €25 million, but growing interest from England has shifted that number. They now want a package worth €35m—and the flexible structure of a loan-to-buy suits them.

TeamTalk note that Juventus are open to a paid loan with a mandatory clause, which fits Everton’s current bid model.

Luiz must now choose his next project

Everything now hinges on what Douglas Luiz wants.

Everton can offer regular football, Premier League familiarity, and the chance to be a key player in Moyes’ rebuild. That could be enough, but with Villa and West Ham also keen, Luiz will need to decide which project best aligns with his ambitions.

This isn’t a panic signing. Luiz is a known quantity: strong in possession, calm under pressure, and used to the Premier League’s demands. At 27, he’s still in his prime and would bring a new level of control to Everton’s midfield.

The structure of the bid is smart too. If Juventus are willing to do a loan with an obligation, Everton can add quality now without hurting their FFP balance.

Yes, Villa and West Ham are threats. But Everton moved first. That says something about how they’re operating under the new regime.

If they can convince Luiz of the project, this could be one of the best midfield signings of the window.
