Arsenal needing to strengthen their attack is no surprise; a dire list of injuries in attack has sparked interest in recent days – the newest link being that of Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic.
According to Daniele Longo from Calcio Mercato and Con Harrison, Arsenal have revived interest in their long-term CF option during the hectic period of the winter transfer window. Mikel Arteta will be hoping that the board backs him before the transfer window ends in order to compete for their objectives this season.
Why are Arsenal in pursuit of a CF?
Arsenal’s project has managed to accumulate talented players in every department, but one position that has been left unaddressed for too long is that of a #9. Although Arsenal is a side that functions on the collective effort of the team, a reliable goal scorer boosts activity in the final third.
The lack of being clinical in games has cost the Gunners a lot this season, a recent example being their exit against Manchester United in the FA Cup and also the 2-0 deficit they hold in the Carabao Cup clash against Newcastle United.
Additionally, the Gunners have been hit with an unimaginable season full of injuries that hasn’t let Arteta run his tactics as per his needs. Concerns raised about the summer recruitment come down to the same old question – target a marksman CF to lead the line.
What does Dusan Vlahovic bring to the table?
Arsenal’s interest in Dusan Vlahovic dates back to January 2022 when Arsenal’s hopes of hijacking his signature were dashed by Fiorentina selling him to Juventus for €83.5M. The Serbian’s spell there has been a rather successful one, lifting the Coppa Italia last season whilst also netting 53 goals and bagging 11 assists.
Dusan Vlahovic is known for his outstanding ball striking and physically dominant nature against defenders. The target man’s 6ft 3in stature is one aspect Arteta might be excited about – towering height that can be important in aerial chances through set pieces.
An efficient mover off the ball who likes to keep the defenders on their toes, he is a very good channel runner whose capabilities can be maximised at Arsenal. These movements translate well to his box movements where he’s ever so ready to tap home the ball.
Although Vlahovic comes with a couple of limitations, getting his signature on a loan deal could prove to be decisive in their run-in to end the season. It all comes down to the interest to acquire him and Arsenal’s initiative to drop funds.
