Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering making a move for Real Madrid wonderkid Arda Guler in the January transfer window.
According to TBR Football, the 19-year-old is frustrated with the amount of playing time he is getting with the Los Blancos under Carlo Ancelotti. Spurs are monitoring Guler’s situation and will prepare a bid should the teenager be made available in the January window. However, Tottenham will face stiff competition from Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and Manchester United.
Guler was considered one of the most exciting youngsters in the world when he was at Fenerbahce. Barcelona showed serious interest in signing him, but the youngster decided to join arch-rivals Real Madrid instead. The Los Blancos unveiled Guler in July 2023, having agreed a £20 million deal with Fenerbahce for his services.
Arda Guler unhappy with his playing time at Real Madrid
However, since signing for Madrid last summer, the Turkey international has made just seven league starts. Although his immense talent would see him start every week at most top clubs, it’s hard for Guler to get regular minutes in a team with the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Junior, and Rodrygo Goes. Given his situation, the 19-year-old may ask the club to let him leave in January.
While signing Guler on a permanent deal would be a dream signing for Spurs, it remains an unlikely scenario. Madrid rate Guler highly and will probably only allow him to leave on a short-term loan spell. While not ideal, having him on a loan deal could give Spurs a significant boost in their quest for Champions League qualification.
Guler is capable of playing in attacking midfield or on the right wing. He is highly skilful and possesses the vision and technique to open up defences with his inch-perfect passes. Additionally, he plays with a flair, making him a joy to watch. Guler’s addition would make Tottenham a stronger side, and the North London side should make a move for the teenager should Real Madrid make him available in the January window.
