Every transfer window calls for an opportunity for the clubs to inspect their squad, plan for the future and even undo some of their past mistakes. Bayern Munich, this season, has let go of their star striker Robert Lewandowski and thus looks to bolster their squad with new additions. After acquiring the services of Sadio Mane, there has been news in Germany suggesting the Bundesliga giant’s interest in Chelsea’s Kai Havertz.

Kai Havertz moved to England from Germany in 2020, when Lampard did beat the competition of Bayern Munich to land Kai from Leverkusen. Then 21-year-old was considered to be a major boost for Chelsea as the player already had a lot of credentials before the move. His potential was very highly rated in Germany and the same was hoped with his move to England. Although, Kai has enjoyed a mixed career at Stamford Bridge as the German did not really find his feet in English Football but has lived some glorious moments. He netted Chelsea’s Champions League-winning goal and also the winner to help Chelsea lift their first Club World Cup trophy. The player has been excellent in spells but has never managed to find consistency while leading the Chelsea line.

Kai was used differently by both Lampard and Tuchel in different systems to fulfil different roles. Over time, the team has accepted that the ‘Silky German’ looks best up top as a Number 9 where he stays a bit deep to carry the ball. Tuchel described his role best as a hybrid of No. 9 and No. 10. Despite some level of positivity surrounding the player, the question marks over his performance have always been raised. The German has recorded 23 goals and 14 assists in his 94 games career at Chelsea so far. The numbers look a bit underwhelming considering the price Chelsea did pay for his potential. But the German still is just 23 and is slowly and steadily adapting well to English Football. Chelsea management has let go of both Lukaku and Werner this window and has trusted Kai to lead the line. While Chelsea still might rope in a forward, Kai remains crucial in their plans.

Bayern Munich did lose out on Kai in 2020 after being outbid by Chelsea, but the Bayern board are reportedly still tabbing the German talent. They want him to lead the Bayern Munich line for years coming with Lewandowski departing and Muller also turning 33 soon. Many consider Kai to be more suited to the German League, as Timo Werner, and also a perfect player for Naglesmann’s new front 2 system but in this window, it looks very unlikely that such a high-profile signing could make a swoop with Bayern already roping on Sadio Mane and De Ligt and Chelsea also ready to trust the German. But if the performance level remains stagnant, Chelsea might consider getting back some of the huge bucks that they invested. The current deal for Kai runs till 2025, and many European giants look to keep their eyes on the German but it looks likely that the forward would prefer a move back to Germany if he wishes to switch.
