Fulham boss Marco Silva is interested in Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno ahead of their Premier League return.
The newly-promoted Cottagers are looking for reinforcements in the squad with the keeper’s position set to take over by a new name next season. Marco Silva has named the Arsenal shot-stopper as a viable option for the position.
Following a rather dismal campaign by the keeper, Arsenal chief Edu has agreed to let Leno look out for new opportunities ahead of the forthcoming season. The German international too wants a move away from the North London club after not getting minutes under Mikel Arteta.
Bernd Leno arrived at the club as a starter in 2018 but has had very few impactful matches to boast during his stint. Since joining the club, he is now behind Aaron Ramsdale in the pecking order after the club signed the latter this season. Leno made only eight appearances and conceded 11 goals in the 2021/22 season across all competitions with the club. Arsenal are now looking for a backup in Matt Turner with reports suggesting he is on his way to Arsenal from New England Revolution.
While Fulham make their comeback to the PL next season, the gaffer still has quite a job in his hand this summer. He will need to ensure that he builds a competitive team to stay level with the elite clubs in the league. Having relished a great season in the EFL Championship and looking to continue the momentum at the English top-flight may seem tricky but still possible. Surely, Silva’s side would not want to repeat the miseries of Norwich City’s campaign in the coming season.
With Leno, the club would have gained a keeper with experience in the English League and someone who understands the dynamics of the game well. Marco Silva would be looking to pay the fee considering the keeper still has a year left in his contract with Arsenal.
The 30-year-old keeper will need to prove himself under Silva especially after not having got minutes at the Emirates stadium. Moreover, the keeper would look to turn his situation around at the Craven Cottage.
Fulham would look to use his experience and understanding of the game to their advantage by playing against the big clubs to secure important points next season. However, it remains to be seen if the transfer eventually goes through.
