Jesse Marsch’s rebuild at Elland Road ahead of the new season has already begun with the signings of attacker Brenden Aaronson and defender Rasmus Kristensen. According to the Athletic, the Peacocks want to strengthen their midfield and provide competition to England star Kalvin Phillips and have identified Bayern Munich’s Marc Roca as a possible target.

Roca, 25, is two years into a five-year contract with Bayern but is thought to be available for around £10 million. West Ham United have also been keeping an eye on the Spaniard, according to sources in Germany.

Bayern recruited Roca from Espanyol where he began his professional career. The Spaniard made over 100 La Liga matches and was also a member of Spain’s side that won the European Under-21 Championship in 2019. After Espanyol was demoted, he moved to Germany. His opportunities at Bayern have been restricted, with six league appearances last season and nine this season.

Leeds wants to strengthen their midfield before the start of the new Premier League season and are striving for an agreement after first identifying Roca as a prospective target in January.

Leeds United scraped through the relegation battle on the final day of the Premier League with a late win against Brentford. Numerous first-team injuries cost the Peacocks dearly and the need to sign players to add squad depth seems to be the plan for the Leeds hierarchy who are determined to back Marsch.

Marc Roca for 10 million pounds looks like a bargain transfer with the Spaniard adding quality in the midfield for the Peacocks. The 25-year-old is yet to reach his prime and has the potential to be a solid player in the future for Leeds. The midfielder would partner Kalvin Phillips in the middle of the park if the latter fends off Manchester City’s interest and stays put at the Yorkshire club.
