Leicester City are keen to make a swoop for Bristol City midfielder Han-Noah Massengo in the summer transfer window.
The 20-year-old has been linked to a number of clubs this summer and Leicester City are in the mix with OGC Nice to sign the player. Massengo, who is currently with Bristol City has appeared 39 times and assisted twice for the club in this season.
On the surface, the numbers may provide a different picture but his overall performances on the pitch have been strong enough to get himself linked with the Foxes. The midfielder also boasts Champions League experience with Monaco before making a move to Bristol City.
The last couple of weeks has been difficult for the player after the match got the better of him and was eventually substituted. The player has looked jaded at times in the last few games this season and he only managed to get a few minutes on the pitch. Despite having few underwhelming performances, the Foxes have set their eye on the player and are ready to finalize a move to the King Power Stadium.
Why are Leicester City interested in Han-Noah Massengo?
Han-Noah Massengo can play as a central midfielder with the ability to adapt to playing in the defensive midfield. His versatility on the pitch can be of advantage to the club. Now, Hamza Choudhury and Youri Tielemans’ contract expires next summer creating a void in the midfield with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall remaining as the only option for the club.
It remains to be seen if Choudhury and Tielemans extend their contract, with the latter already looking to close a move to Arsenal but irrespective of how that churns out, the Gaffer would certainly want to add more depth and bolster his midfield with Massengo. The Foxes will have to secure replacements in the transfer market in the summer and the Bristol midfielder will not be a bad start. The midfielder has gone on from strength to strength during his time with Bristol and has been pivotal on many occasions. This sort of profile could help the Foxes in the big matches.
Leicester boss, Brendan Rodgers usually likes to rotate his midfield by playing three, sometimes with four players with two on the flanks and two in the central role. Massengo has shown traits of drawing back and making crucial tackles to win the ball. His ball-winning ability and providing important touches in the counterattack could help him fit in the squad and even as a starter. Although there seems to be a long way, the midfielder has all the skills to be one of the best box-to-box midfielders in the world. Rodgers could do with a player of such quality in his ranks.
At 20, the French international comes at a very appealing age with the best years of his career still ahead of him. Wilfred Ndidi was side-lined for the run-in after having undergone surgery and could be available only in the early phase of next season. Till then, Massengo could play his part in the pre-season in order to impress the manager and cement his spot in the squad. The young sensation may be in the early stages of in playing the English top flight but Rodgers could use fresh legs and groom him at a competitive level.
As per reports, Leicester have already initiated first contacts about signing the Bristol starlet. Only time will tell if the player eventually plays for the Foxes next season.
