Katerina Svitkova has always had the potential to play at a high level. Before her time at West Ham Women’s team, she was at Slavia Prague- – she was a step above, scoring 188 goals in 177 games, during her 7 years at the club, from 2013 to 2020. In 2020, she moved to West Ham, and scored 0.2 goals per game from midfield in her first season, and then racked up 0.3 goal contributions per game. But, after two seasons, could we see the possibility of Katerina Svitkova moving clubs?
SHOULD KATERINA SVITKOVA STAY WITH WEST HAM?
West Ham haven’t had a bad season, as they are currently sitting in sixth, meaning they are currently the ‘best of the rest’ this season. The Hammers have been steady since joining the WSL, consistently finishing in midtable, but they had a slight blip, where they finished 3 points above the relegation zone (but they still finished 9th).
Svitkova seems to be a vital player for West Ham, as she has played 33 games in her 2 seasons at the club. She is one of the hard grafters of this West Ham side, and the Hammers won’t want to lose the Czech international. With a staggering 47 caps and 21 goals for her country, she is an experienced head, in an Irons side starting to increase its amount of youth.
When she joined the club, Svitkova said, “It’s a very big club, with a big history and in a very nice city.”
She continued overlooking the prospects of working around the Hammers, “I hope I can help the Club to achieve their goals and I hope we will be successful together. I wanted to join West Ham because there are very good players here and I love the coaching staff. They have been brilliant, and I like their work. I am very excited to be with them and I think I can improve with them.
Followed some facts about how WSL is the best in the world, “I also think that the Barclays FA WSL is the best competition in the women’s game. I think England has the best players and it was my dream to play in England.” She may love plating in the WSL, but she’ll want to win a few also, and what better place to do so than the serial winners that are Chelsea.
Katerina Svitkova has only been with the Irons for two seasons and may want to see if she can stay with them for a bit to show that she is consistent in the WSL. West Ham has been giving her good game time, with her playing 1519 minutes this season, and 1032 last season. But if she wanted to leave, where does she go?
CHELSEA
There have been links between Svitkova and Chelsea from the likes of Emma Sanders, who has said that there is a real possibility of her leaving this summer for the Blues. Svitkova probably wouldn’t start for the Blues, as there are a lot of quality depth players, and she would likely be added to further this.
The Blues are currently sitting at the top of the WSL, and if they win against Manchester United, then they will collect their 6th WSL title in 7 years.
They have a lot of people in and around the midfield (Svitkova operates in the left, central & right midfield positions for West Ham) – this includes the likes of Erin Cuthbert, Guro Reiten, Jessie Fleming, Melanie Leupolz, Sophie Ingle, Drew Spence and, until recently Ji So-yun, who announced that would be leaving in the summer. It will obviously be a very big blow for Chelsea, as she had been at Kingsmeadow for 8 years, and has been an embodiment of Hayes’ spell at the club so far. So, if Chelsea are getting Svitkova to directly replace Ji, then they’re going to have to hope they are the right match.
