Arsenal are looking to sign a right-back this summer, and there are a few available to them at their dispense including the 23-year-old Brazilian right-back at Shakhtar Donetsk.
Domilson Cordeiro dos Santos, or as known as Dodô is one of the few primarily targets for the Gunners. While Arteta might get a few strong competitors, it should n0t be much more difficult to gain the Brazilian’s services. Upon contacting, Shakhtar have straight up asked for a €20 million fee, according to UOL Brazil.
Alongside Dodô, the Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk are ready to sell some more of their players owing to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Meanwhile, if we look at the Gunners’ situation. Yes! They do have Hector Bellerin in the right-back position, but he has not been performing like the fiery Bellerin he once was. As a result, he has just a year left on his contract, and he is currently serving the loan term at Real Betis. Though Arteta has a promising player in Takehiro Tomiyasu – who can run the shifts down on the right-hand side when required. But most of the Japanese’ time, here at the Emirates, has been scarred by injuries. So in order to sort this out, Arsenal upon Arteta’s insistence have started to look at different options in the position. One being the promising Brazilian star, Dodô.
The 23-year-old Brazilian right-back moved to Shakhtar from Coritiba in January 2018. Since then, he has proved to be a revelation in that position for the Ukrainian side. Dodô has scored 5 goals and has assisted another 17 in a total of 97 appearances that he has made in the Shakhtar colours.
While a signing like this could be worthwhile for Arsenal if the Brazilian promises to fulfil his €20 million tagline. But at the same time, it won’t be an easy task for the Premier League team to get hold of the player, as it has been reported that some of the other big European clubs – like, Dortmund & Bayern- are also eyeing the player’s services.
Verdict
It seems highly likely that Arsenal might go for the player if they won’t get their hands on the 21-year-old Boro full-back, Djed Spence. Arteta vary the shortcomings that has came from that area in the past, especially to give a commendable back-up to Tomiyasu and moreover bring different dynamics to the squad. So, it should not look too much of a surprise if Arsenal goes all-out for Dodô, at such a price.
Given, Arsenal are looking pretty strong right now to finish in the top 4 this season, I think it is safe to say that Arteta is martialling all of his resources to strengthen his squad for the next year’s European football.
