According to multiple reports over the past few days, Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira is nearing an exit from the club. The Brazilian midfielder is currently on loan with Brazilian side Flamengo since the beginning of the 21/22 season.
Reliable sources like journalist Fabrizio Romano have confirmed that Flamengo are pushing to sign the 26-year-old on a permanent basis from the English giants. Pereira has not played for United since the end of the 19/20 season, spending the entirety of last season on loan with Italian club Lazio. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made regular use of the Brazilian in his interim tenure, and in the first few matches in the 19/20 season. Pereira started well under him, but his form soon faded away and he found himself on the bench or out of the matchday squad more often than not.
Pereira came through the United Academy, impressing the coaches in their youth setups, after having signed for the famed youth academy from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven. He quickly made his way up through the ranks, and caught the eye of then manager Louis van Gaal, who gave the Brazilian his debut for the club back in 2014. He spent the subsequent years in and out of the squad, as playing time was hard to come by, also spending time on loan at clubs like Valencia and Granada.
The Brazilian was never able to hold down a starting spot at United, and as a result, was always sent on loan outside. However, it now seems that his time with the club has come to an end, with his current side now open to signing him after being impressed by his performances in the Sèrie A. The Brazilian club have opened negotiations with United and talks are on for his permanent transfer.
The Brazilian midfielder has 5 goals and 1 assist in 18 Serie A appearances, and Flamengo will be hoping he can build on those performances. The 26-year-old’s versatility on the pitch is one of his main attributes, with Pereira capable of playing as a no.6, no.8 or no.10 and even as a winger. His long-range shots are good, but there is certainly room for improvement for the Brazilian.
Flamengo are believed to have verbally agreed to a fee with Manchester United for the permanent signing of Andreas Pereira, who is on loan with the Brazilian club until the end of June. According to the latest reports from Romano, it seems United are ready to accept a €10.5 million offer which also includes a 25% sell-on clause. As per the latest update, the deal could be completed any day, and negotiations are in their final stages. The paperwork is being prepared, and Andreas Pereira is ready to be a permanent Flamengo player.
