Chelsea have completed the signing of a young English striker Mason Burstow from Charlton Athletic just before the deadline of the window. Burstow, 18, will be staying on loan at the League One club for the remainder of the season.
Chelsea is known to nurture some young and exciting talents after signing at a young age and developing them in their academy system and one such name can be Mason Burstow. Burstow is an 18-year-old English center forward who has played his early football for Welling United and Maidstone United before signing for Charlton Athletic in 2020.
One interesting narrative around the young striker and the Blues states that the youngster was called up at Cobham, 2 years back, for a trial but was not so impressive. But the scouts always kept tabs on the striker and now the Englishman convinced the Blues to sign him after an impressive season starts at Charlton.
Mason has already netted 6 times in just 602 minutes of action, with his first goal for the League One side coming from his first touch for The Addicks. Since then, he has been unstoppable for the club with 8 goal contributions already made this season and will be hoping to continue the run with his stay till the end of the season. He is termed to be a complete striker, who is well known for his poaching abilities in the box and is also regarded highly when it comes to link-up play. His accuracy inside the box, with timely headers and accurate finishes, stands out of all his qualities.
He has always been under high praise by the close ones around him. Charlton Athletic’s Development Coach, Anthony Hayes, after the youngster’s move coated, “He’s someone who we consider a high-potential player. “I wouldn’t want to put any pressure on him because I know he sets his own targets. I know there is a lot of goal-setting in terms of creating and scoring goals, as well as making first-team appearances.”
The youngster will be joining the likes of Jude Soonsup-Bell and Harvey Vale at the Chelsea Academy, a set of players who will be leading Chelsea’s attacking line in future. Soonsup-Bell and Mason playing together will be a delight on the pitch and could both make a dynamic duo in the future.
Mason Burstow, as he mentioned after signing for Chelsea, has to keep his head down and keep progressing to be the next English prodigy. Cobham is definitely one of the best places to be in and thus could help Burstow perform to his potential.
