According to the Daily Mail’s Sam Brookes, Watford are after the unwanted Arsenal defender Sead Kolašinac. The club have likely registered an interest in the 28-year-old Bosnia and Herzegovina international who has continually been at the edge of leaving the Gunners for over a year now.
Kolašinac has been completely forgotten at the Emirates, with many fans shocked that he was still at the club when he played against Manchester City. When the club’s primary left-back Kieran Tierney was sidelined, it wasn’t him who received the call-up to the starting 11, but it was the summer’s bargain buy Nuno Tavares instead. Kolašinac is at least the club’s third choice, and even potentially the fourth choice. So it wasn’t a surprise to anyone that Arsenal were looking to part ways with him.
Sead Kolašinac joined Arsenal from Schalke in 2017, as the Gunners were looking for a player to improve on the declining Nacho Monreal. Despite achieving that, Kolašinac never seemed settled at Arsenal. He was often ostracised and scapegoated by the fans, who thought he prevented them from progressing. His successor Kieran Tierney was everything the fans wanted, and as a result, Kolašinac was now playing second-fiddle and was on the bench.
However, Watford have tried a similar kind of transfer, when they signed an out of favour Danny Rose from Tottenham Hotspur. Kolašinac would be replacing Rose at Vicarage Road, as things haven’t gone well for the Englishman at Watford. Rose has been labeled as lazy, tired, unfashionable, and boring to watch, so, after just a year, the Hornets have been looking for an upgrade.
Sead Kolašinac is both younger and fitter than Rose was when he joined, so it would be a bit more of a sensible transfer. However, it seems that some fans don’t even want him, with many preferring a player to be brought up from the Championship, such as Jayden Boyle or Ethan Baird, who could both be brought in for circa 7.5 million pounds. However, Arsenal’s asking price for Kolašinac in the summer was rumoured to be around 15 million pounds, and when that extra 7.5 million could be used to attempt to get a talented youngster like Eddie Nketiah or Cole Palmer in their side, it could be the difference between relegation and a stable mid-table finish, especially with how volatile the Premier League has been so far.
