Chelsea are in for a big summer transfer window and have been linked with some big names as they look to build a squad to compete for the League Title. Thomas Tuchel has been in constant talks with the board as the club plans for the recruitments. They are looking for a center-back and surprisingly they have been linked with a move for Paraguayan Captain, Gustavo Gomez.

Gustavo Gomez plays in the Brazilian Serie A for Palmeiras and Chelsea have already made an enquiry for the 28-year old. He is looked as a much cheaper option when compared to players Chelsea have on their radar for other positions.

Gomez is a physically well built ball playing center back. He has played in Europe for a short span for Italian side, AC Milan but his spell in Italy was not his best. Since his return to South America, he has been defensively solid. He has great aerial abilities and many experts praise his concentration in the game. Gustavo Gomez has the leadership instinct in him and could be a great replacement for Thiago Silva in near future. He could be a perfect sweeper in a back 3 for Thomas Tuchel. Due to lack of European connection, he could be available for a very reasonable price if he decides to move to London.

Chelsea although really are not in dire need of an option like Gomez as the current squad already has a lot of talent in the position. Marc Guehi, who has been very impressive on loan for Swansea, will be back with the squad and really has the potential to directly make it into the starting XI. Also Malang Sarr will make a return for Napoli and will be tested in pre-season in training. Also in the academy, Xavier Mbuyamba, might be a name who will push for a spot in the senior squad.

So Chelsea could do well without a new recruitment in the position unless they want a short span replacement to ageing Thiago Silva and Azpilicueta and give the above mentioned names time to develop.

Gomez will be captaining the Paraguayan squad in the Copa America this month and will be a player Tuchel and his co. will have an eye on amongst the many they have on their radar.
