Jadon Sancho to Manchester United. The never-ending transfer-saga of last summer have resurfaced yet again, however, this time with intent and deadlines put in place by United rather than Borussia Dortmund.
Also, unlike last year, Jadon Sancho is pushing for a move to Old Trafford, and they are confident of sealing a deal before the start of next season.
WHAT IS THE CURRENT SITUATION?
As reported by ‘The Telegraph’, Manchester United are confident of securing a deal for Bundesliga superstar Jadon Sancho after they missed out on the Englishman last year. The Englishman has contributed to 35 goals in 36 games for the German club this season, and there are no surprises as to why Manchester United are back in the market for the winger this summer.
While Dortmund were demanding £108 million for their star-studded winger last year, the asking price has come down by quite a bit since then, with the German club now ready to accept anything between £75-85 million for the 21-year-old. The fall in price is due to the financial problems caused by the Covid-19, and the value that Sancho has lost over the year. While the youngster’s potential is incredible, Sancho has only started 33 out of a 60 game campaign for Dortmund this season.
Moreover, while Sancho was the main man for the club last year, the attention has now shifted to Erling Haaland, who has become a one-man army at the club. In such a scenario, Dortmund will gladly accept a cut-price fee for their ‘2nd best player’ at the club.
Additionally, Jadon Sancho has an agreement in place with Dortmund regarding leaving the club if a reasonable offer is put forth by a club of his choice. This seems like a win-win deal for both the player and the club, and given that Dortmund retained Sancho for the year, it will be an incredible bit of business if they still manage to gobble up £80 million for the player.
WHAT IS MANCHESTER UNITED’s STANCE?
Manchester United, like last summer, are willing to bring the player back to England after he left rivals Manchester City as an academy starlet four years ago. Last summer, United were given ultimatums by Borussia Dortmund to sign the player before a certain 10th August deadline.
To put things into perspective, United’s campaign last summer ended on the 16th of August and, while several clubs did go ahead with their respective deals, United want to begin negotiations for a player of Jadon Sancho’s talent only after their season had ended.
However, Borussia Dortmund did not budge on the deadline, nor did they budge on the £108 million price tag. This left United with the option of securing a deal for the winger this summer, and it seems like United are going to do exactly that. While the Red Devils also have players like Harry Kane and Erling Haaland on their transfer list, Edinson Cavani’s contract extension at the club has cooled down United’s interest in a center-forward.
Jadon Sancho is a world-class acquisition, while he is also a player that can act as a game-changer on the day. Bruno Fernades has been carrying on the mantel more or less single-handedly this year, and bring Sancho to the club could ease the pressure on the Portuguese to a certain extent.
However, this time around, United have some deadlines of their own to comply with.
DEAL TO BE THROUGH BEFORE THE EUROS:
With the European Championship this June, Manchester United want to complete the signing of Jadon Sancho before the tournament commences, and there is a very valid reason for it.
If Jadon Sancho performs at an incredible level for the Three Lions at the Euros, the winger’s valuation could be subject to change. Dortmund will rake up Sancho’s price by at least £20-25 million more than their current price of £80 million, and on top of that, Sancho will also an increased number of suitors, who will be willing to pay more than £100 million for the Dortmund winger.
Manchester United have no intentions of entering into a bidding war with the biggest clubs in Europe, while any price above £90 million will also be a ‘no-go’ for the Red Devils. United are also one of the victims of the Covid-19 disease and are not interested in spending an obnoxious amount of money on a single player.
WELL, HOW MUCH TIME THEN??
Jadon Sancho is interested, as are Manchester United. It is a deal that should be completed soon, but given the tense contract negotiations between the two clubs and Sancho’s agents, it could take a while for the United faithful to see Sancho in the famous red jersey.
