Talisman; Leader; Serial Winner – Sergio Aguero is quite possibly one of the greatest strikers of the Premier League and it is a bit sad how things have come to an end for the striker at a club where the Argentine has dedicated 11 years of his life.

Signed from Atletico Madrid in July 2011 for a then club-record fee of £36 million, Aguero won the Premier League title in his first season itself, in the most iconic fashion as the Argentine gave the Premier League one of its greatest sporting moments in the history of the league.

However, ever since Pep Guardiola’s appointment in 2016, it always felt like Guardiola had a plan for everybody but Aguero. Although the Argentine was selected more often than not, his selection was based on merit more than Guardiola’s liking for the player.

The Argentine suffered from a lot of injuries in the past couple of seasons with Aguero making his lowest amount of Premier League appearances (15) in the current 2020/21 season, with most of them coming off the bench.

At the end of March, Manchester City and Aguero mutually decided and confirmed that the striker will be departing the club after years of dedicated and professional service.

SERGIO AGUERO MOVE TO BARCELONA ON THE CARDS :

After the announcement that the striker will leave the club at the end of the season, many clubs were on alert regarding the striker’s situation, however, what has made Aguero an attractive proposition is that the forward is available on free as his contract expires at the end of the current season.

While clubs like Independiente, Chelsea, Paris Saint Germain, and Juventus were touted as possible destinations, it is Barcelona who have come out as frontrunners to secure the forward’s signature.

As per TyC Sports, there have been intense negotiations between the Catalan Giants and Aguero in the past week.

Moreover, Barcelona have also ‘supposedly‘ made a two-year offer to the Argentine which is said to wrapped up pretty soon.

It has also been reported that Aguero’s move is all but confirmed as the forward has also agreed to take a pay cut to seal the move, as per Spanish sports news channel, La Porteria.

A move to Barcelona, while not a good move on the part of the club could work out well for Aguero. The club lacks a center-forward who can be in the right positions to finish off the plethora of chances they create.

Luis Suarez’s departure in the summer hit Barcelona very hard and have since tried to replace the Uruguayan and Aguero would be a perfect fit for that.

Moreover, like Suarez, Aguero also shares a very good relationship with Barcelona ace Lionel Messi on and off the pitch. The pair have been friends for the longest time as both have previously gelled pretty effectively for the Argentinian national team.

Aguero also knows the league from his Atletico Madrid days and would be keen to make an impact again. The forward’s all-round play is something Barcelona can certainly do with and it should not be long before Barcelona makes an announcement regarding the forward joining the Catalan club for the next season.

It has been 11 glorious years for Sergio Aguero at Manchester City, and with City still actively competing in 3 competitions, Aguero will certainly leave the club the way he started his journey in England- with a trophy.
