They say one shouldn’t be expecting different results for the same input but Fulham’s story of their last Premier League campaign and this one is quite similar, with the London club bringing in various new faces at both times, though the result does seem different and it’s fascinating why. Here we look at three reasons why Fulham fate might change this season even though they’re implementing the same tactics as they did last time around in the Premier League, though with a slight twist:
Buying players:
When Fulham got promoted to the Premier League in the 2018/19 season, they prioritized bringing in new faces than playing with the same team and retaining the cohesiveness of the squad. Well, that experiment failed and it failed drastically with the London club ending up spending a big fortune and still failing to retain their Premier League status.
Hence, it might have been a consideration at the Craven Cottage to go in with the same side that won them the promotion. However, as many believed, Fulham’s side wasn’t ready for the challenge and needed reinforcements. It would have been a blunder had they would have decided against making signings.
Right Mentality:
The key to the success of the new faces that Fulham have brought in the summer has been down to the fact that Scott Parker and those at the club were looking for players who desire to improve and prove themselves on the big stage. The signings have been smart and economical.
Feasible signings:
Fulham brought in big names like Jean Michaël Seri and André Schürrle, however, this time around they have concentrated more on signing quality players who weren’t that big a name in names like Ademola Lookman, Joachim Andersen and now, Josh Maja.
