An academy product of Nice, Sarr has played in 20 matches in 2019-20 season. He turned down a new contract offer after his contract expired at end of June.
Malang Sarr will be an amazing addition to Frank Lampard’s team, as last season his side went on to concede 54 goals, their worst defensive showing since the 1996-97 campaign. He will join Thiago Silva, Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell for the list of players who are expected to join The Blues this summer.
Standing at over 6ft tall, Sarr is a versatile player who can play at left back, centre-back and defensive midfield position. He is excellent passer of the ball and also a great reader of the game.
During the 2019-20 Ligue 1 campaign, Sarr has been excellent with per 90 stats looking like:
Tackles & interceptions completed: 2.9
Clearances made: 1.4
Dribbles completed: 0.7
Average passes completed: 60
Passing accuracy: 90.4%
Long balls completed: 3.5
This leaves Frank Lampard with six centre-backs options but having said that he is looking sell one of Rudiger, Christensen and Zouma while academy product Fikayo Tomori is likely to join Rennes on a season long loan.
If Frank manages to sign all the four players then one can definitely expect the West London club to challenge Liverpool and Manchester City for the Premier League.
